17-year-old murdered in Afghanistan suspected of being detained in Germany in the UK
German prosecutors said Wednesday that a suspected fatal knife attacked a 17-year-old Afghan in northern Germany earlier this year.
The suspect was arrested by British police on Saturday, acting on information from the criminal police station in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northeast Germany.
The man allegedly stabbed the teenager outside a shopping mall in the state’s capital, Schwelin, on February 4. The victim died from a hospital injury.
Authorities said a few days later that an arrest warrant had been issued for Afghanistan, 25.
A spokesman for the Schwerin prosecutor’s office said investigators believe the man fled to France before he arrived in the UK.
She added that German authorities have asked their British counterparts to extradite the person.
