Travel consultation map shows which countries have warnings from the U.S. State Department

One consideration for travelers is the U.S. State Department warning. Federal agencies issue travel consultations, ranging from Level 1 to Level 4 per country.
Levels indicate how cautious the department advises travelers to choose to visit another country.
Level 1 recommends that passengers take normal precautions, as all international travel has certain risks. Level 2 recommends increasing caution for some “higher risks to safety and security”. The third level advises that Americans reconsider traveling to the country due to “severe risks of safety and security”, and the fourth level advises that everyone should not go to the location.
The State Council weighed several factors when it issued its recommendations, including crime level, terrorist threats, civil unrest, health problems, and the possibility of natural disasters.
If some regions pose more risks than others, countries can also have multiple levels of recommendation. Warnings are regularly reviewed and updated by the State Council.
