Triston Casas suffered ‘major knee injury’

Triston Casas Manager Alex Cora told reporters (including Chris Cotillo of Masslive, who suffered a “major knee injury” in his defeat of Minnesota tonight. According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Casas stayed at a local hospital after being taken out of the field on a stretcher.

The damage occurs in the second round. Casas hit the check chopper at the first baseline. when Joe Ryan Casas played the ball, pierced the first basic bag, trying to beat the throw. He crashed into the base awkwardly and stumbled upon the foot of the Minnesota first baseman France. Casas immediately favored his left knee and fell for a few minutes before being stuffed. Romy Gonzalez Finished the game at the first base.

It was devastating news for Casas, who faced a second long absence in many seasons. He was put on hold due to persistent rib injuries from late April to mid-August last year. He hit .241/.337/.462 in a healthy state with a record of 63 games. Casas has struggled early this season, releasing a .182/.277/.303 slash, three-book home runs on 112 trips to the dish. In the coming days, the Red Sox may provide more details about the injury and treatment plans.

Gonzalez started seven games at first base this season. He is the only player outside CASA who can record any moves. Gonzalez is a multi-position infielder who spent most of his career at second base. He has performed quite well this season, but entered 499 sets tonight with a career at the .245/.277/.388 batting line. Sox is unlikely to be willing to rely on him as a daily first baseman for expansion.

Sox has no obvious solution to minors. Nathan Hickey is Triple-A Worcester’s main first baseman. He reached .262/.300/.429 in the first 22 games of the season. Infielder Abraham Toro With 115 sectors emerging, Woosox’s year is much better. He has started five starts at the first base this year and has 90 professional major league innings at that position. He’s more likely to get a call than Hickey, but he’s more like a second baseman/third baseman, a little bit similar to Gonzalez.

One speculative possibility is to turn Rafael Devershe has not played any defensive innings all season. Devers never had a professional inning at first base. He is obviously familiar with the infield, but Cora made it clear early this season that Sox temporarily sees him as a full-time designated hitter. It seems they want Devers to focus on maintaining offensive rhythms as DH instead of occasionally doing defensive work after being pushed out by The Third Base Alex Bregman sign.

This may need to change at some point. Using Devers as a full-time DH basically blocks any playing time path Yoshida Masataka Whenever he is able to return from a shoulder injury. In theory, Yoshida can play some left field, but this needs to be pushed Jarren Duran Center, only one choice Roman Anthony From Triple-A. If the Red Sox uses Devers comfortably at first base, it will be more flexible.
