Trump denies sending birthday letter to Epstein

According to the Wall Street Journal, President Trump sent Jeffrey Epstein a unkempt 50th birthday letter, including a naked woman with her breasts and a sign that mimics the pubic hair.

The report is as the president continues to fight the Justice Department’s archive release against Epstein’s, a financially dysfunctional financier who died in prison.

The journal reviews a copy of a lewd letter gathered by Ghislaine Maxwell from Epstein’s friends and colleagues and compiles it on a leather-bound album to commemorate his birthday in 2003.

Sources told the journal that the album was part of a document reviewed during the Justice Department’s preliminary investigation of Epstein and Maxwell. It is unclear whether they are part of Trump’s recent review of Epstein’s record.

The president denied writing the letter. When the Journal reached out to Trump, he said: “It’s a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story.”

Shortly after the report was released Thursday night, Trump threatened to sue the Wall Street Journal and its owner Rupert Murdoch.

“These are not my words, not my way of speaking,” Trump wrote on his social media platform. “I told Rupert Murdoch that it was a scam and he shouldn’t print this fake story. ”

Trump’s letter to Epstein includes mock conversations printed in the outline of a naked woman. It ends with a line that says: “Friends are a great thing. Happy birthday – May every day be another wonderful secret,” the journal says.

In addition to the letter, the birthday album includes similar cards written by former Victoria Secret CEO Leslie Wexner and letters from former Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz.

An opinion poll conducted by economist/Yougov this month found that 83% of Trump’s supporters in 2024 hope that the administration will release all material related to the Epstein case.

The shameful financier died in a New York City prison in August 2019 while facing charges of child sex trafficking conspiracy. In 2022, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for helping her long-term partner sexually abuse a girl.

Former Trump adviser and fundraiser Elon Musk also criticized Trump for refusing to share Epstein’s archives.

“@realdonaldtrump is in the Epstein archive,” Musk wrote during his public knockout during his public competition with the president last month. “This is the real reason they haven’t made it public.”

Trump has faced calls for appointing a special prosecutor to review the potential release of Epstein’s documents.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated the president’s objection in a briefing Thursday.

“The president will not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case,” she said. “That’s how he feels.”

Times Washington Bureau Director Michael Wilner contributed to the report.
