Trump immediately received Republican praise in Congress after announcing strikes against Iran
WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional Republicans — at least one Democrat — said Saturday night that the U.S. military bombed three Iran locations, immediately praising Donald Trump.
“Good job, President Trump,” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham posted a “brave and right decision” on Texas Sen. John Cornyn. Alabama Senator Katie Britt called the explosion “strong and surgical procedure.”
Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin published: “The United States first.”
Roger Wicker of Mississippi, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Trump “has made a deliberate, right decision to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian regime.”
Wicker posted on X: “We now have very serious choices to provide security for our citizens and allies.”
After Trump publicly considered a few days of strikes, the rapid recognition of strengthening U.S. participation is in Iran, and many congressional Republicans have cautiously said they think he will make the right decision. “When we take action tonight to ensure that nuclear weapons are far away from Iran, I stand with President Trump and pray for the U.S. military and personnel in a dangerous way,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on Saturday night.
Thune and House spokesman Mike Johnson, R-La, according to people familiar with the situation. The presentation was made before Saturday’s strike and anonymous discussion was allowed.
In a statement, Johnson said the military operation “should be a clear reminder of our opponents and allies that President Trump means what he said.”
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford said he also stayed in touch with the White House, “I thank the American servicemen for these precise and successful strikes.”
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who was separated from Israel’s outspoken supporter, also praised the attack on Iran. “It’s the right move for @potus, as I’ve been insisting for a long time,” he said. “Iran is the world’s leading terrorism sponsor and cannot have nuclear capabilities.”
Both sides have seen splits in the prospect of a strike in Iran in recent days. Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican, our long-time rival in foreign wars, posted a foreign war on X after Trump declared “This is not a constitutional attack.”
Many Democrats insist that Congress should have a say. The Senate was scheduled to vote on Virginia Senator Tim Kaine’s resolution this week to demand Congress approval before the United States declares war or specific military action against Iran.
