Two sheriff’s deputies were hospitalized after a crash in South Los Angeles

Authorities said two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies tried to escape the scene after being hit by another motorist Sunday.

The collision occurred near Westmont in South Los Angeles, sheriff’s Department spokesman Tracy Koerner said.

Koerner said the two delegates headed north on South Vermont Avenue when another vehicle headed east hit them near the intersection with West 98th Street. Another driver did not have lights, Koerner said.

The impact pushes the representative vehicle into a nearby telephone pole. Video from KCBS-LA broadcast shows the black and white cruiser of the sheriff’s department is fixed to the electric tower.

According to Koerner, the suspect tried to escape from the area on foot but was later detained. It is not clear whether the suspect has been formally arrested or booked for detention; officials have not released the person’s name or other identifying information.

Koerner said deputies were taken to the port – Uksar Medical Center “lifeless harm”.
