Ukraine restores half of the power plant capacity that Russia destroys

Ukraine has restored half of the power plant capacity that Russia destroyed, three years since the Kremlin began its full-scale invasion, a minister said on Monday.

“One tenth [destroyed] As Interfax-ukraine reported, Gigawatts said at a joint meeting of the Ukrainian government cabinet and the European Commission: “We have brought five back into the system.”

He said progress has been made thanks to a support fund of about 1 billion euros ($1 billion) in the energy industry.

Ukraine is largely dependent on Western support as it tries to repel the ongoing Russian invasion.

Russian troops targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with powerful and repetitive drone and missile strikes, resulting in massive power outages in many parts of the country.
