Valves made steam deck verification procedures for things that do not steam decks

Steam will offer a compatibility rating this week, which will be specified when gaming is supported on the company’s operating system. Steamos compatibility assessment is planned for “in the next few weeks.”

The metric is an extension of the Steam Deck Verification Program, which will grant the game symbols based on a subset of data during the review process. In other words, if the game developer has completed Steam Deck, there is no need to take any other steps. On the player side, compatible games will display a blue selection mark when viewed in the Steam Store and Steam clients, while running the operating system on devices outside the steam deck.

The announcement is mainly about future actions. Currently, this is the only handheld type besides the steam deck that officially runs the valve operating system. But Lenovo is already the second iteration of CES hardware this year, and Valve obviously plans the growth of the Steamos platform. If Steamos really becomes a standalone service, the landscape may start to look completely different.
