Vandy Peralta won’t opt out of Padres trade

veteran rescuer Vandy Peralta He will waive the opt-out option in his contract, Anne Heilbrun of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Peralta’s four-year, $16.5MM contract includes the opportunity to opt out after each season. He will exercise a player option worth $4.45MM for the 2026 season and will have the final player option next offseason for the same amount.
Peralta actually has two years, $8.9MM left on his contract, with the option to opt out midway. In free agency, he may have a chance to post a career-high 3.14 ERA in 71 2/3 innings, but that’s far from a sure thing. The 34-year-old player is not very old. This year’s strikeout rate of 20.1% and walk rate of 9.6% are both worse than the league average.
Peralta still throws hard, sitting at 95-96 mph with his sinker and stacking ground balls at a rate close to 60 percent, but since signing with San Diego, he’s worked primarily in the low-to-mid-leverage position. He will stay put and once again become a frequently used part of the Friars bullpen picture.
There will be more to come.
