Volkswagen recalled 5,700 ID.Buzz Electric Vans because their seats are too spacious
Volkswagen has recalled the 2025 ID.Buzz Electric Vans as their rear seats are only configured for two people, but are wide enough to fit three. According to NHTSA Comments (PDF) electrekVolkswagen is recalling 5,637 vehicles that were built between September 18, 2024 and February 11, 2025. The 2025 ID.Buzz’s movable third row is only suitable for two people. However, its seat surface width exceeded the value specified by two occupants under federal motor vehicle safety standard 208, reducing the standard for reducing deaths in the crash.
In other words, the third row of 2025 ID.Buzz is wide enough to require three seat belts. In fact, it would be easy to incorporate a third person into a third person and they would not have protection when the vehicle was on the road, and if they had an accident they would increase the likelihood of injury or dying. Volkswagen intends to solve the problem by installing permanent “undecorated parts” to limit the surface width of the passengers can sit on the rear bench. The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Electric Van was released in the United States in November 2024, starting at $60,000. Its EPA estimate range is 234 miles and offers several possible color schemes.
