Want to look at your phone less? Just cover your screen

“What’s good about this is, it’s painful,” Adrian said. “I mean, canceling a case in a life plan isn’t really painful, but it has the best position to rub, and you’re not flipping it all the time and doing it all the time.”

“It’s basically turning compulsive behavior into conscious behavior,” Clara said.

Note that the aperture does not actually exist yet. This is more of an art project than an actual project. But while this may not be a reality, the special project hopes it inspires a more thoughtful reflection on the time we spend on our phones. Like an app, if you scroll too much, you can feel inward to kill the digital tree, thus causing you to lose your phone.

“This is something many people are struggling with,” Adrian said. “There are many solutions, but it’s just a click on the solution.”

Aesthetically, the works of the special project have aroused a youth engineering spirit that pursues digital health. When the team was working on a project called Paper Phone, the idea of Aperture came up, the app lets you print a piece of paper with all the information (e.g., contacts, calendar meetings, grocery lists) that you might need in your phone of the day.

In this project, people from the West noticed that the camera lens cluster on the back of the phone box carved the windows the same size as the Apple Watch. With Apple managing to input a large amount of information into a limited window for devices installed on its wrist, Westaways believes it’s very easy to do the same on the phone. What if you can enable it by flipping your phone box?

“We just started playing with these ideas,” Adrian said. “The idea we really like is to use two things you already have, and you can turn them into a feeling like a new device.”

But while the initial vision was to turn any cell phone case into an assistant with aperture enabled, reality is unlikely to work in this way. First, the Switcheroo may only work for any mobile phone case, because depending on how the case is made, it may not be suitable for the other way around at all, or it may inadvertently press the side button on the phone.
