Waymo sells ads to riders based on camera data

There are rumors today that the Robotaxi Company Waymo may use data from the vehicle’s internal cameras to train AI and sell target ads to riders. However, the company tried to calm the problem and insisted that it would not target passengers’ advertising.

This came after an unreleased version of Waymo privacy policy by researcher and engineer Jane Manchun Wong, which suggested that Robotaxi Company could start using data from its vehicles to train generated AI. The language of the draft policy allows customers to choose to “use your personal information (including internal camera data related to your identity) for training gai”. Wong’s findings also suggest Waymo can use the camera lens to sell personalized ads to riders.

Hope Waymo sticks to these statements. As AI companies try to provide as much information as possible for their models, privacy and security are huge issues. Waymo is owned by Alphabet, and Google is developing its own AI assistant, as well as other AI departments.
