What we know about Apple’s new phone
Apple announces the latest news on its smartphone lineup every fall, but it’s often hard for the company to keep details secret. Before the official unveiling of the iPhone 17, we have heard some hints about the store’s possible presence. This is what we know and expect.
When will the iPhone 17 series be announced?
Most years, flagship smartphones were launched in September. It is too early to have a specific date. For several years, Apple has only provided a week or two in delivery between sending invitations and hosting events. But the past few years have shown that sometime in September it should be the first of 17 models.
What will the new iPhone 17 lineup include?
Design leaks suggest that Apple is building an ultra-thin smartphone that might be named the iPhone 17 Air to match Apple’s ultra-light laptop name. BloombergIt was reported in January that the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a basic A19 chip and only has one camera lens. It can also use Apple’s new internal modem, which was introduced on the iPhone 16E in February. More details about this development may leak before September, but that’s what we know so far.
Each new roster includes a base model, but over the years, Apple has shaken the various phones it offers. There will most likely be iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. Apple is also committed to the concept of size importance and has been building an iPhone Pro Max option with a larger screen and longer battery life. The 17 roster will almost certainly have one.
The iPhone 17 Air seems to be able to replace the potential iPhone 17 Plus. Since the iPhone 16e was only introduced at a surprisingly high price in February, it seems unlikely that there will be a new addition to the lower end of the spectrum, which were formerly known as SE.
At least, it sounds like the iPhone 17 Air won’t take away the charging port, but it only relies on wireless connections. Bloomberg It says Apple has investigated the iPhone 17 air without a port, but the company (luckily) changed plans. He also said the rumored phone will have a 6.6-inch screen and include dynamic islands and camera control buttons. Ultimately, the price is rumored to be $900, which may be higher than the standard iPhone 17, but less than the Pro one.
What will iOS 19 look like?
Jon Prosser of front-page technology removed a video in January that pointed to a redesigned camera app that might point to a bigger change in the operating system in the upcoming iPhone lineup. In early March, Bloomberg Assertions that support iOS overhaul are also in progress. iOS generations have not had obvious overhauls, and it might be exciting to see Apple push the envelope on the software again.
Prosser released a follow-up video in April, taking a deeper look at what he claims to be a more complete build of iOS 19. He said the 2025 software update will focus on visual overhauls…but there are no shocking usability changes that could drive Apple’s loyalty. It is said that the UI was borrowed from Visionos, using the home screen icon with a corner radius of about 30 (mostly round but not completely round). The brightness and volume sliders in the control center also show a more rounded appearance.
Home Tech creators showcase models of redesigned tab views in the app, such as smooth animations for music animations. Additionally, he said the search box for the iOS 19 messaging app is at the bottom of the leaked build, below the chat thread.
Finally, Prosser claims the camera app is borrowed from the Samsung Galaxy S4 (yes, Apple’s competitor’s 2013 flagship): a new mode that allows you to record with both the front and rear cameras. He said this feature shows what the main camera is in the floating box on the main camera and will be unique to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
While we don’t have any official leaks about this, it seems like everything guarantees that Apple will continue to push its Apple Intelligence Suite. We are still waiting for some promised updates from Siri that are designed to leverage AI tools, so when the 17 Series arrives, these updates will be fully completed and integrated.
The company will often share more details about its upcoming software plans at its global developer conference. WWDC 2025 is most likely to happen in early June, so hopefully you will hear more about the operating system this summer.
