Pope Francis dies Monday after 12 years as president of the Roman Catholic Church, a Condolences Globally. The death of the pope initiated hundreds of years of rituals and traditions that ended with a conference dance, a gathering of 135 current cardinal conveners who were sealed within the Sistine church to elect the next church.
This is what happened in the next few days.
Day 1
The Pope was officially declared dead by Cardinal Camerlengo – currently born in Ireland, the United States, Kevin Farrell, one of the most important Vatican officials during the Interregnum period.
Traditionally, Camerlengo (Chamberlain) would strike a silver hammer on the Pope’s head while three times his baptismal name. The hammer is no longer used. Typically, an electrocardiogram is used to confirm that John Paul II died in 2005.

Novemdiales
The death of Pope Francis will be a nine-day period of mourning called Novemdiales, a tradition that dates back to the Roman times.

Funerals must be held four to six days after the Pope’s death. Weather permits, and will be held in St. Peter’s Square. The recent pope has requested that it be buried beneath the cathedral, but Francis said he will be buried in the Cathedral of Major St. Mary in Rome. He also asked to be buried in a simple wooden coffin.
The Pope’s funeral was divided into three separate stages or “sites”. They are the preparation of the body, the observation of the body, and then the burial.
At the funerals of the kings, queens, states and religious leaders, the coffin will be carried through the so-called “Gate of Death” to the left of the main altar, and a bell will be lost. The coffin was then lowered into the marble sarcophagus and covered with slabs.
During the nine-day mourning period, cardinals from all over the world gathered in Rome and began meeting in the “General congregation,” a campaign period in which various pope candidates spoke about their vision for the church and mapped the direction they thought they should take.
Meeting
Between 15 and 20 days after the Pope’s death, the vote will begin, as the cardinal voters of the Pope’s Council are isolated from the world and begin the process of choosing the next pope’s centuries-old history. Cardinals under 80 (about 135 people are currently) are eligible to vote.
Behind the backdoor of Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, the Cardinal will vote for his choice, repeating the process until the candidate appears with a two-thirds majority. After each round of votes, paper tickets are burned, sending out black smoke to indicate that there is no choice, and finally reveals the white smoke that has chosen the new pope.
