“You Give Up Time in America”: Asylum Seekers Looking to Use the App Are Telled to Leave

Immigrants who have been told to use the online dating app to temporarily reside in the United States were told to “leave the country immediately,” officials said Monday. It is not clear how many beneficiaries are affected.
Since January 2023, the country has allowed over 900,000 people to use the CBP ONE app. CBPOne is the cornerstone of Joe Biden Administration’s strategy, aiming to create and expand legal avenues to the United States, in an attempt to block illegal border crossings or the troubled southern border throughout the Central United States.
People who are generally allowed to accept US through the app hold a two-year authorization in the country and can work under a presidential authority called Parole.
“Removing these paroles is the commitment of the American people to ensure our borders and protect national security,” the Department of Homeland Security’s Media Affairs Department said in response to the question.
Authorities confirmed that the termination notice had been sent to CBP One beneficiaries, but did not say many. Urge them to voluntarily consume themselves using the same application entered, which has been renamed CBP Home.
The Department of Homeland Security wrote to the Honduran family, which entered the United States by the end of 2024. The Associated Press reviewed emails received Sunday.
Others shared the same emails on social media platforms.
More extensive use of fines
By the end of December, 936,500 people were allowed to make CBP appointments at border crossings with Mexico. President Donald Trump ended CBP One on his first day of office, ending the game for new entrants, trapping in Mexico with thousands of dates until early February.
The Department of Homeland Security said on Monday that Biden’s use of parole authority – more than any president since its inception in 1952, further exacerbating the worst border crisis in U.S. history. ”
Meanwhile, according to documents reviewed by Reuters, the Trump administration plans to impose fines under deportation orders, with up to $998 a day if they don’t leave the U.S. and without paying.
As immigration attacks and arrests continue in the United States, the White House press secretary said the administration has considered all undocumented immigrant criminals.
The Trump administration is also considering seizing property from immigrants who do not pay fines, according to a government email reviewed by Reuters.
In response to Reuters’ questions, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that U.S. immigrants should illegally use the renamed CBP One, now known as Trump’s CBP residence, to “self-deport and leave the country now.”
“If they don’t do this, they will face consequences,” McLaughlin said. “This includes a fine of $998 a day, an illegal foreigner’s overdue deportation order.” The DHS warned the fine in a March 31 social media post.
The fine stems from a 1996 law that was first enforced during Trump’s first term. He invoked law to impose a fine of hundreds of thousands of dollars, violating nine immigrants seeking asylum in the church. The government withdrew the fine, but subsequently fined at least four immigrants about $60,000 each, according to court records.
President Biden stopped fines and canceled relevant policies when he took office in 2021.
Scott Shuchart, the top immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) policy officer under Biden, said immigration and their supporters could challenge fines in court, but the threat alone would have a chilling effect.
“Their view is not really about enforcing the law, but about projecting fear in the community,” he said.
Immigration Advocacy Group FWD.US estimates that approximately 10 million immigrants without legal status or temporary protection live in so-called “mixed status families” with U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
