Despite the Russian military’s claims, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that his troops are still fighting in the Kursk region.

“Our troops are continuing to carry out active defensive operations [Russian] Zelensky said in an article on X: “Kursk and Belgorod regions. He also said that the battles continued near Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine.

On Saturday, the Russian military claimed that the Kursk region had been “completely liberated.” It said Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that all Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region were defeated and only a single Ukrainian soldier was still “trying to hide.”

It is not currently possible to provide an accurate and independent overview of the situation in the region.

In early August last year, Ukrainian armed forces unexpectedly crossed the border into Russian territory near Kursk and initially acquired 1,300 square kilometers of Russian territory before being pushed back. Kiev’s goal was to force Moscow to re-election and put pressure on the front lines in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian General Staff also rejected Russia’s claim on Saturday that it had used Kursk as a “propaganda move.” The Ukrainian General Staff said that the battle continued not only in certain areas of the Kursk region, but also in the neighboring Bergorod region.
