A week after the deadly Russian missile strike killed 19 people, including nine children and teenagers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the site of his hometown of Kryvyi Rih.
“A common area. There are residential buildings everywhere, only civilian buildings,” the president said.

A published video shows the president put a plush teddy bear on the playground and flowers in a temporary memorial near the school.
Among the victims, nine children and adolescents were between the ages of three and 17. The attack injured 75 Ukrainians, including 17 children and 60 damaged apartment buildings, 23 private residences and 3 educational institutions.
Zelensky said in a subsequent meeting with military officials and regional government that the discussion focused mainly on strengthening air defense defense in the Dnipropetrovsk area.
“There have been more than 2,000 air strikes since the beginning of the year,” the president wrote. That’s almost twice as much as the same period last year.
Zelensky also visited a local military hospital where he presented medals to the soldiers. Ukraine has defended the Russian invasion for more than three years.
