Prisoner John Kennedy makes a bold escape from Peru’s prison

According to popular videotapes, a 22-year-old thief named after the late John F. Kennedy, who escaped from prison in Peru, caused an uproar in Peru, yelling as he shouted God to rush towards freedom.
John Kennedy Javier Sebastian was one of the 10,000 prisoners in the Lurigancho prison – Peru is the most crowded, with 2,500 built.
He escaped from his cell Monday night “bypassed security controls, climbed up the perimeter fence, entered so-called unmanned land” and then climbed over the exterior walls – both decorated with razor wires and safety spikes.
Sebastian has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for theft since mid-2023.
“Hallelujah, the life of Christ!” According to the video taken by the neighbor, the fugitive can be heard when he reaches the main road and darts.
Gunshots and dogs can be heard in the background, but Sebastian managed to escape without any damage.
After escape, the prison head was fired and safety strengthened, INPE said. Authorities initiated a hunt.
The last escape from the prison occurred in 2017.

According to the Atlantic Commission, Peru is experiencing a wave of crime, with the government declaring its third state of emergency last month in less than a year. In December 2024, the United States issued a security alert for Peru. In 2022, the U.S. State Department pointed out that the United States “has made Peru’s crime risk high for 15 years.”
